Staff Sgt. Sonny C. Zimmerman, 25, of Waynesfield, Ohio, died July 16, in Mushaka, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle was attacked by a rocket propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Campbell, Ky. SSG Zimmerman joined the Army in June 2005 and had been stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. Sonny was a 2005 graduate of Waynesfield Goshen High School, a member of Waynesfield United Methodist Church, an avid OSU Buckeye fan, Cleveland Browns fan and Detroit Red Wing fan. He played roller Hockey and while attending high school he played football and baseball. Sonny was born August 21, 1987 in Lima to Chris and Michelle (Turner) Zimmerman. His father survives in Waynesfield, his mother survives in Waynesfield and step father David Fischbach, survives in Ottoville. On September 30, 2012 he married Morgan McGhee and she survives in Lima. Other survivors include a daughter Riley McVicker, grandparents, Ronnie and Loretta Zimmerman, Waynesfield, Lucy Turner, Bellefontaine, 2 sisters, Kaylee Zimmerman, Waynesfield, Staff Sergeant Baily Zimmerman, Pope AFB, North Carolina, step brother, Andy Fischbach, Nebraska, step sister Abby Fischbach, Columbus, father & mother in law, Kevin & Chrisa McGhee, Lima, brother in law Matt McGhee, Lima, and sister in law Nici (Andrew) Wright, Alexandria, KY. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at Waynesfield Goshen High School with US Army Chaplain French and Rev. Kathleen Hays officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, OH. Friends will be received from 1-4 and 6-9 pm Friday also at the school. Contributions may be given to "Wounded Warriors" in Sonny's memory. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the school. Obituary information provided by Armentrout Funeral Home
